Data breadlines and data brawls — TechCrunch

When I think about the behavior of many business people today, I imagine a breadline. These employees are the data-poor, waiting around at the end of the day on the data breadline. The overtaxed data analyst team prioritizes work for the company executives, and everyone else must be served later. An employee might have a…

Small Business Facebook posting tips

facebook marketing

If you want to use Facebook to grow your business, then you need to understand how to publish updates to your Page that people actually want to read, share, and respond to.

It gets harder every day for businesses to get noticed on Facebook because Page updates don’t get the same “weight” in the algorithm Facebook uses to show updates in users’ Profile streams. Page updates get buried, so you need to drive people to your page through other tactics such as advertising, your email newsletter, your blog, and so on.

You also need to plan your Facebook marketing tactics and posting schedule to increase the level of interaction with your content. Here are some tips to help you do it:

 Consider Your Publishing Timing

Research has shown that to increase interaction with your Facebook updates, the best time to post on your Facebook Page is on weekends and off-peak hours (peak is usually defined as between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern time). Studies have found that the days when the least amount of posts are published are also the days with the highest interaction rates. In other words, your content has less to compete with at those times.

 Publishing Frequency Matters

You should publish updates to your Facebook Page as frequently as you want because more posts lead to more interaction according to research data. However, keep an eye on your unsubscribe rates as you increase post frequency. You don’t want to post so frequently that you annoy your audience.

Vary the Types of Posts You Publish

Photos drive the highest levels of interaction, but your Facebook Page timeline shouldn’t be filled with photos and nothing else. Be sure to publish text status updates, video, audio, and links to meaningful and relevant content, too.

 Include a Call to Action

Don’t just publish content to your Facebook timeline and hope people will interact with it. You should ask people to share your best posts and comment on them.

 Ask Questions

Ask questions in your Facebook posts and ask people to answer them in their own comments. Striking up an engaging conversation is a great way to boost interaction!

 Length Affects Interactivity

Studies have shown that longer text Facebook posts have higher interaction rates than shorter updates, so don’t be afraid to tell stories, share information, and provide a lot of details in your Facebook updates.

 Facebook Posts Have Lifespans

The lifespan of a Facebook post is very short. Researchers have found that half of the clicks that a Facebook post gets usually happen within the first hour and nearly all clicks happen within the first 9 hours after the post is published. That post you published two hours ago — it’s lifespan is basically over already.

It’s important to point out that Facebook is always changing, so you should use research data cautiously. Every Facebook Page audience is different and only you can determine the best ways to publish content on your Facebook Page to increase interactivity. Analyze your performance reports to determine what kinds of content perform the best and develop a Facebook posting strategy based on that data which will enable you to reach your goals.

edX University of Adalaide offers Cyberwar training

cyber surv

Cybercrime is an issue that is affecting the lives of many people throughout the world. In Papua New Guinea many people are not aware of its existence and fall prey to the cyber criminals. Things like scams and pornographic links are all too common. A family member was a victim of cyber crime but this can be another topic. Right now I’m just feeling fortunate that edX has given me a unique opportunity to learn online about Cyber hacking and security issues and receive a certificate at the end of course. This by far in comparison to previous years is a mild stone for me. Looking forward to meeting you all.

UNICEF supports data collection

Rapid pro

Through the use of mobile phone-based data collection and advocacy initiatives, UNICEF is supporting government departments in Papua New Guinea to collect and communicate vital data via RapidPro to inform policy decisions.

RapidPro is UNICEF’s mobile phone based system for real-time data collection for improved monitoring of service delivery. It is a communication engine to power connections among decision makers, frontline workers and government partners.

UNCEF is driving efforts with government, NGOs and the private sector to identify and scale up technological, scientific and programmatic innovations that can contribute to high benefits for marginalized children.

Using RapidPro, government departments are collecting a broad range of real time data from school enrolment numbers to inform about district level funding and cases of juvenile justice.

Outgoing UNICEF country representative to Papua New Guinea Baba Danbappa said, “UNIFEF’s quality data was needed for successful implementation of projects and programmes in the country.”

“UNICEF has also introduced to DIRD two modern systems and technologies, the Rapid Pro mobile SMS technology to be used as a pre-monitoring tool for collecting sectoral data from districts and Devinfo programme for generating district information.” He said.

UNICEF is supporting the Department of Implementation and Rural Development (DIRD) to strengthen data collection, monitoring and service delivery at the district and provincial level. Once at scale, the initiative will reach 1,162 government administrators. By enabling DIRD to collect real-time data, RapidPro will help increase the responsiveness of Government to the needs of district level authorities and ensure greater accountability for spending. Data collection is ongoing in seven districts, and will be scaled up to other districts in May and June of 2016. Data collected through the system will be linked to the DevInfo data management system and will help inform policy development.

To ensure sustainability, officers from DIRD and stakeholder government agencies were trained on the use of Devinfo and Rapid pro mobile short message services (SMS) systems for the purpose of continuation of district information management systems projects. Mr. Danbabba said, “This training would equip the officers on what sort of information is required for collection and how they would go about to get those data needed for the service delivery in a district or province.”
