CN2 on LX300 powerboard

Diagnosis:

-No power

-burning smell

– Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) problem.

– Fuse blown.

-Changed fuse still no power.

Changed 5W 10Ω J 64 resistor.  Shorted out on pwer up.

Checked primary resistors.OK. Checked filter capacitors. OK. Checked FET K2718. Faulty.

Fault:

Power Burn out caused by voltage fluctuation.

Remedy / Recommendations:

Parts is a problem.  Need to modify another similar SMPS board to fit.

Salvaged power board from old Epson FX 1120.  Modified to fit into ATX PSU casing and connected to the main board.

Modification details- Solder  Gnd: pin 3,4&9 of CN2 to pin 3,4,5,6,7&8 of fx1120 pwr brd, then solder pin 1&2 35vdc to pin 10&9 on FX1120, then pin 5 (9vdc) to pin 11 of fx1120, pin 8&7 5vdc to pin 1&2 of fx1120, pin 6 is left alone not connected. I used four long wires and used the skin of a LAN cable to cover the wires so that it looks like an external power supply (remember the ATX Power supply unit casing).  I’ll provide some snap shots if you want. Just email me. johnkonie@yahoo.com

Now to test it out.  Powered up.ok. LEDs on ok.  Operating buttons working.  Test print ok.
